Why was Jesus not married?
— Lucy (Nigeria)
Well, we're not told exactly why Jesus did not marry, however in Matthew 19.7-12, Jesus was asked about marriage and divorce, and after his answer, his disciples remarked that, considering the demands between a husband and wife "It is better not to marry". To this Jesus replied that, "Not everyone can accept this word...[but] there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the SAKE OF THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN". So although the Bible doesn't state clearly why Jesus Himself didn't marry, we can infer based on the nature of Jesus and His ministry on earth, that He considered the demands of the Kingdom and His Father's will foremost. He said, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work" (John 4:34). This is even clearer when you consider the following:
Practically, it would have been irresponsible for Jesus, who knew he would die around 33years; to marry, have a child/children and leave the woman and child/children on their own that early. What would become of the children after that?
When you consider the hostilities and shame Jesus bore on earth, and also the nature of the Jews then, it would have been difficult for His wife or children to grow up in such a community. They would have suffered great stigmatisation or even persecution.
Here also, considering the fact that Jesus was always on the move from one town to the other, He wouldn't have been home to help raise children or meet the needs of the wife. This would certainly not be a good example for fatherhood or husband.
Lastly, it is important to note that Jesus' blood was not mixed with any human but was pure and divine (1 Peter 1:18-19). I am not sure the outcome of mixing that with marriage and sex.
I could state more but these should do. Jesus cared a lot about such things. On the cross, He didn't want to leave His mother without someone to take care of her, so he left her in the care of John His disciple (John 19:26). Jesus didn't want to leave us as orphans so he left us with the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-18) Jesus cared about people's needs and also had compassion over them (Matthew 9:36). He wouldn't have wanted to put a poor lady and probably children in such a state.
Marriage, is a tool and an institution that, has a lot of demands and it's not to be entered in unadvisedly. Jesus would have well considered this and His ministry on earth and made the best decision concerning marriage.
