So it is said in the Apostle creed that Jesus descended to hell. What did he go to there? If it has got to do with conquering the devil to pick up the key of death, why do we still die strange deaths like accidents, covid19, etc?

This question has a lot. I will answer it this way:
- Is it true that Jesus went to hell? If Yes, what did He go to do?
- How does that affect or not affect the presence of diseases still in this life.
Did Jesus go to hell, and why?
So first of all, it is true that Jesus did go to hell. (Please "hell" is NOT the lake of fire. It means "the place of the dead"; that is, where spirits—both righteous and wicked—go when they die. But there is a separate place for the righteous—called "Abraham's Bosom"—and the wicked. There is an uncrossable space between these places. You can read about that in the story of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-28).
In Ephesians 4:7-10, Jesus went to hell to release righteous souls in hell to ascend up with Him to where He is.
According to Colossians 2:15 and Hebrews 2:14-15, He went there to disarm Satan and his authorities, and made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
Also in 1 Peter 3:19, the Bible says when he went there, he went to "Preach" or "make proclamation" (depending on the Bible version you use) to the "imprisoned spirits" there. That is just to say He went to "announce", the truth about the defeat of satan, and that He, Jesus, now holds the keys to life and death, to all wicked spirits in Hell. So all hell knows Jesus is LORD and He has conquered satan. This is why they also bow when Jesus name is mentioned (Philippians 2:9-11).
How does that affect or not affect the presence of diseases still in this life?
Now to the second question. This world is still broken. Satan only has authority over the lives submitted to him. Jesus has saved us from the power of sin, the punishment of sin, and later in the future we'll be saved from the presence of sin. This world still has sin in it, and satan's influence. There are still people who hate God and love evil. Therefore evil exist in this world and would be so until the end of all things, when God brings us a new earth and a new heaven. (Revelation 21:1-4). At that time, "‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)
Having said, this, as Christians we have the right and authority to claim divine healing, divine health and spiritually war against all ills that are from sin and evil. We also have the responsibility to live right and avoid such health issues. We have medical science also as wisdom to help us avoid some sickness and death.
If this question resonates with you, you’re not alone.
